Katie Evans is an artist, arts writer and curator based in mid Wales.  With a background in literature and history, her work exemplifies a push-and-pull between the (seemingly) opposing poles of poetry and methodology. By extracting elements of painting - whether narrative, material or colour - she dissects the medium in an insatiable hunt to discover what painting is, where it resides, and where it hides.

The pendulum swings from traditional fresco-inspired compositions to expanded painting sculptures; from geometric grids to minimalist gestural colour field. Whether working with centuries-old oil painting techniques, or hand-felted wool and salvaged ocean debris, her body of work resists categorisation into a singular style. Playfulness exudes – whether in the material handling, the word play of work titles, or curating spaces of surprise.
